So last October someone got this great idea to repurpose pallets and make a Pumpkin Stand for a photo prop. Pinterest is full of these photos and DIY blogs showing you all the ways you can save money and create an inexpensive prop to use in themed photo sessions. I must say I was rather excited to build something, and picking up free pallets was no problem. I went to Home Depot and bought some nails, sandpaper and the rest of the supplies I already had. Well, I must say deconstructing a pallet looks easier than it really is. The wood is hardened, the nails rusted and usually there are multiple nails as the pallets have been used and repaired multiple times.
I started off with a plan and it just fell apart. The measurements were all different, the amount of sawing and sanding was beyond what I imagined and at the end of the day I was left with a not so pretty heavy makeshift stand. So at the 11th hour I went back to Home Depot, selected light woods like cedar and pine and constructed my pumpkin stand. I made it in three pieces that could easily break down for transport and it was lightweight. The stand itself can also be used as a kissing booth, hot cocoa stand etc. I may have saved money going the repurposing pallets route, but as far as a final product that looks good and meets all my needs, I’m glad I spent the few extra dollars and made something beautiful!
